osCommerce Upgrades
osCommerce Developers – osCommerce Upgrades MS1, MS2.2, MSrc2a, MS3
The latest version of osCommerce is RC2a. osCommerce MS3 is in final beta.
If you are running MS2.2 or lower you might be considering upgrading to a later version. Things to consider for an upgrade are:
1. Have you installed any osCommerce Add Ons?
If you upgrade, you will need to re-add these functions if they are not in the new version by default. So make a list of things that have been added.
2. Have you had any custom code developed?
This is code that did not come from an osCommerce Add On/Contribution. You will need to describe what functionality it was for.
3. Are you wanting to keep your design?
Unless it has been done in the last 12 months, you might want to consider upgrading the design along with the code. Have a look at your competition. Look at the industry leaders. Look at overall web design trends. Don’t just think graphics. Think user interface – the site navigation, search and filter tools, cart management, checkout process. A new design at the time of an upgrade is often cheaper than doing the design as a separate exercise.
