Hosting FAQs

Setting up Email Accounts

You can set up your email accounts under your hosting control panel.   Once set up, you can then set up the account on your own computer.  Your incoming server is mail.domainname.com.  Your outgoing server can depend on your ISP. In general it is mail.domainname.com.  However some ISPs e.g. Verizon, require you to use their outgoing mail server. In either case, the outgoing server requires authentication.

Always set a mail quota for an email address. Do not give any email address unlimited quota as this can cause problems if that address is the victim of SPAM.

Do not leave mail on the server. Over time this just causes numerous problems.  Please download your email from the server to your computer by setting up the email address on your own computer.  Mail left on the server will build up using up your hard disk allowance.  While this is not a huge issue, you also risk filling up an individual email address’s mail quota which will stop that address from receiving email.

If you plan to forward mail from a domain email address to a private email address, do not set up an actual domain email account.  Simply use a forwarder.  If you set up an actual account the mail will still be delivered to the domain address and sit on the server filling up the quota.

If you do leave mail on the server then please manage it.   Deleting email is not enough, you need to also purge deleted email so that it is physically removed.

Bulk Email

Our servers are have a 500 email per domain per hour limit.  If you attempt to send more email than that per hour then any email over this limit will be dropped. Therefore should you want to send bulk emails such as newsletters to your customers, you will need to use a third party email service provider.

Forgotten Passwords

If you have forgotten your password for your email address then you can log into your hosting control panel and reset it.

If you have forgotten your password to your hosting control panel or ftp then log a Ticket with Hosting and we will reset it.

If you have forgotten your password to your site administration and it uses .htaccess level security you can log into your hosting control panel and reset the password for the admin folder under Password Protect Directories function. If Admin uses an internal password function then use the Forgotten Password process.  If you have additional trouble then log a Ticket with Hosting and we will reset it.

IP Address Banned

Security on our servers is higher than commercial hosting environments.   The server firewall monitors invalid login attempts to your site administration, email, hosting panel and ftp access.  Repeated attempts will cause the IP address from which they come to be banned.

How do you know if you have been banned?  Simple. You won’t be able to see your site. It will look like it is down.  But it won’t be.

If you can get a new IP address by reconnecting your computer to the Internet then doing so will resolve the problem.  If you have a dedicated IP address then you will need to contact us and have us remove the ban and whitelist that address on the server if you do not wish to be banned again.

Adding Other Applications

If you want to add other applications to your domain such as a Blog, then you must first get our permission and if agreed then you must commit to keeping the application up to date.  If a domain audit identifies an out of date application, you will be required to upgrade or remove it.

Just remember, under the terms of your hosting agreement, you cannot hire a third parties to do work on your domain without our prior approval.
